Chris' Woodturning | Large Australian Hardwood Bowl
Large bowl from Australian hardwood. This wood has lived many lives already.
This wood is from a large beam from the deck of a demolished Wellington wharf, which it acted as for 80-100 years before it became this. And it was a tree before that. May it serve for as long as possible (another 80 years) and then return to the earth.
Once upon a time a sea creature made its home in what is now the side of the bowl. The creature's path has left a bored hole that is coated in a shell-like crust.
The bowl has a generous and open shape, and although the wood is very dense and hardwearing, it feels elegant in your hands.
300mm x 80mm.
Finished with food-safe tung oil.

Store FAQs
Woodenware is intended for everyday use!
After use, wash in warm soapy water or wipe down with a damp cloth.
Do not put it in the dishwasher or fridge, or leave it in water to soak, or basking in a sunny window (these can cause expansion / contraction of the wood and can cause cracking).
The wood is finished with food-safe tung oil. If the surface is looking dry after a couple years, or months of regular use, you can re-oil it. Simply wipe down with walnut, linseed, tung, danish, or mineral oil, let sit for a few mins then wipe off excess and air dry. Don't re-oil with vegetable oils as they can become rancid over time.
Handmade with love in Paekākāriki.
Each item is hand signed and includes the wood type.
