My work blurs the lines between painting and photography by using varying lengths of exposure and natural movement of the ocean. I capture not only a moment in time but also create that feeling that brings you back to your senses, back to your breath and back to you. Each photograph is a single in-camera capture, ensuring authenticity and a unique connection to the moment. While growing up in rural New Zealand I was lucky enough to always be connected to nature and the ocean. Long summer holidays were spent by the beach and the water became my soulful place. Travel was calling me and early on I attended a course at the London School of Photography which made me fall in love with the art of creating images with movement. I began learning to capture what it was that I was feeling and with this, photography became the way I saw the world. There is an energy that expels from my photographs as if it draws you in, so you too can feel that sense of space and belonging standing on the beach grounded in the elements. When I go to the beach I instantly switch off from life and the chaos of the day disappears as I’m barefoot gazing to the horizon, breathing in that salty sea air and listening to the movement of the water in rhythm with the tide. This is my home away from home. This is where I find my calm
