Tracey-Lea Morgan | The Sun After Kissing the Dawn (Danaë)
In this piece, I reimagine Danaë, the mother of Perseus, using gold glitter to represent Zeus as a shower of golden rain. Danaë is wrapped in a New Zealand woollen blanket, symbolising warmth, protection, and a blending of myth with the contemporary. The glittering gold represents divine power and seduction, while the wool suggests the grounding of her humanity. This fusion of classical mythology and modern materials reflects a timeless narrative of power, vulnerability, and transformation, rooted in cultural and personal history. The skin is also treated as a grid, every square painted individually in different blue tones... to bring the blanket pattern into the body. There is an iridescent gold glaze over the whole painting 76cm x 76cm - oil, acrylic and glitter on stretched canvas (ready to hang, unframed) You can send me a photo of the interior of your home if you would like to see how this work would look on your wall.
